Short answer: If a device only supports 2.4 GHz and pairing fails, a separately named 2.4 GHz network can make setup easier. Splitting the names does not increase the speed of your satellite connection.
Try this sequence
- Check the device manual for its supported Wi-Fi band and pairing procedure.
- In the Starlink app, open the router’s network settings and find Split 2.4 / 5 GHz networks. Menu wording varies with app and router version.
- Give the bands distinct names, save and follow any restart prompt.
- Connect the device to the 2.4 GHz name. If its setup instructions require the phone on the same network, connect the phone there too.
- Test nearby before moving the device to its final location.
Keep a note of the original network names so you can reconnect other equipment if needed. If you use a third-party router in bypass mode, change Wi-Fi settings in that router’s own controls.
