For a home-office backup in the Netherlands, how would you test the switch between connections? I’m more interested in keeping work usable than chasing the fastest speed test.

List what has to recover: meeting software, VPN, remote desktop and anything else you actually use. Test those during a planned changeover and note which sessions reconnect on their own.

Yes. Record the steps both ways and who can perform them. Check power for every part of the backup setup. Don’t assume a successful web page load proves the work VPN has recovered.
